Instructor: Wendy Clark
Student’s Required Skills: None, no experience necessary.
Class Description: Someone gave you a fleece! Woohoo! Ok, now what? Wool comes in so many varieties, lengths, colors, thicknesses. In this course you will learn the different properties of wool and how to “skirt” a fleece to prepare it for the next step of washing. Or, you find yourself at a fiber festival, you see a raw fleece, but your brain says, “What do I do with that?”. In this workshop you will learn how to identify the qualities of a good fleece, how to skirt it after you have taken it home and how to prepare and wash that fleece for future fiber projects such as spinning or felting. We will also discuss the various qualities of wool and their different uses. You will learn different ways to wash your fleece depending on its characteristic and desired outcome for your project!
Wendy Clark is a spinner, fiber arts instructor, and is currently working through the Master Spinner Certification program at Olds College. She is also a Shepherd to a small flock of Finnsheep.
