Advanced beginning knitter (must have knit/purl, 2 tail cast-on, cast-off, familiarity with following basic knitting patterns) to intermediate colorwork knitter.
Description:
Have you looked longingly at those incredibly intricate traditional Fair Isle patterns and felt too intimidated even to start? Or maybe you’ve tried some stranded color work and struggled with handling more than one yarn, ended up with the tension all wrong or ugly, “finger-nail catching” loops on the back? This class will take you through the skills you’ll need to tackle Fair Isle and Stranded Colorwork with confidence. You’ll learn about choices for needles (DPNs, Magic Loop and Mini Circulars); options for handling 2 yarns; maintaining the correct tension; reading color charts; catching floats; choosing the right type of yarn; basics of color choices and swatching; plus other tips and tricks for improving the quality of your colorwork projects!
Students Should be to Class:
At least 3 colors of yarn (about 30-50 yards of each) with suitably sized 16” circular, plus same size of 4 DPNs (e.g. fingering weight yarns, with size 2.75 – 3.0 mm, US 2 needles; DK/Light Worsted weight yarns, with 4 mm US 6 needles); a crochet hook; stitch markers; scissors; tapestry needle; 9” circular needles, if you have them, but not essential.
