2020 Newsletter with Fundraiser Update:
|
Greetings Vendors, Volunteers, Instructors, Patrons, & Fans of Fiber Fusion Northwest,
2020 continues to bring it’s challenges and craziness to us all. Currently, my family is arranging virtual meetings for the holidays and yet I find I am looking forward to some free time at home to complete some projects and gather my thoughts. November is the month many of us look to our lives and give thanks. I am thankful for my family, friends, farm, and all the opportunities I have to learn. I hope you all have many things to be thankful for.
Fundraiser Information
I am also thankful for all those who supported Fiber Fusion’s Fundraiser. I am happy to announce that we raised a total of $1,600.71 this year. This includes the $330.48 that was additional money donated during the fundraiser. All monies go directly towards keeping this event free to attend. Thank you everyone!
I had put off announcing the amount raised until now as I straightened out some issues with our fundraiser. Here are the details:
Water Bottle Fundraiser
Water Bottles will be printed around the 30th of November and mailed out to everyone afterwards. The approximate delivery date is now December 15th. Custom Ink apologized for the manufacturing disruption and the delay. You may have noticed that Custom Ink has graciously refunded the cost of shipping to apologize for the delay. We hope you enjoy your water bottles!
Shirt Fundraiser
Alas, the shirts were not immune to the unexpected strangeness found in 2020. You may notice the following printing issues: the greyscale image was lightened, the logo was simplified, and some prints are off center and/or askew. To save you from all the details on why, the upshot is that Custom Ink are willing to reprint your shirts if you desire.
While Custom Ink is happily willing to correct the error, I wondered how many of us might decide to enjoy the oddity of the misprinted shirts. We originally chose the sheared and frazzled-looking sheep and the stubborn alpaca wearing the mask off the nose because they seemed appropriate to the reality of 2020 and at the same time we hoped the sight of animals in masks would bring humor to the world. Now with the misprints, it seems doubly amusing to me. I have chosen to only replace a few of my family’s shirts. I did ask for replacements for the 2021 Fiber Fusion auction shirts, that seemed appropriate.
If you would like your shirt reprinted, please call or email Custom Ink directly.
To allow for the higher detailed printing, the shirts will be replaced with the closest possible matches. All heathered shirts will be replaced with solid colors.

Since we can't be together in person this year, support us virtually by choosing from
six soft & comfy shirt styles or pick your favorite Tervis 24oz water bottle!
Your support will help keep Fiber Fusion a free-to-attend event for everyone!
As you may know, 2020 was the year we were planning the move into the newer building. None of that planning is going to waste. We have already started working on 2021 and your support will help offset the cost of the larger building.
Thank you for supporting your friendly neighborhood Fiber Fusion!

Announcement from the Chairman:
Announcement from the Chairman:
Greetings Vendors, Volunteers, Instructors, Patrons, and Fans of Fiber Fusion Northwest,
First off, thank you to everyone for your continued support of our event, even in these trying times.
I need to start by profusely apologizing for the delay in news. Sadly, it is not good. We tried our best to find creative solutions to move online this year. We welcomed you to join us on a journey into uncharted waters. Well, ‘thar be dragons!’ Unfortunately, with our proverbial ship adrift, we are unable to bring Fiber Fusion online for 2020.
An event like Fiber Fusion is like taking a new ship on a journey each year. It may have the same general design, but every year the ship has some new quirks. This year, we were building our own ship out of spare parts and it was looking good. A crocheted mast, woven sails, and the hull shaped from discarded spinning wheels and drop spindles knitted together. As it got close to the water, the wheels became nervous and started to spin, which took up the slack in our knitting. The drop spindles started dropping away and upon hitting the water it all unraveled. We tried to force the pieces back together (it wasn’t like we would run out of yarn), but at a certain point it’s more bailing water than mending. All you can do is jump in, enjoy the water, and hope next year’s ship is a bit more shipshape.
2020 might have gotten the better of us, and while we are broken-hearted, at least we can now put all of our energy into our 10th Annual event in 2021.
From our whole team, we want to thank everyone for being there and for your offers of help. We hope that everyone is surviving 2020 and finding some silver lining to add to their fiber!
Wishing you all well,
Heidi Lucey
Fiber Fusion Chairman
PS: I have withheld a bit of good news for the end. It looks like we will be able to sell some shirts and even a cup for a fundraiser this year. Look for it to start soon!

Saturday April 25th, 2020 Update:
Dear Fiber Fusion NW fans and participants,
It’s clear 2020 is turning into an unusual year.
We are sad to announce we’ve decided the best course of action is to focus on public safety and cancel Fiber Fusion 2020 at this time.
We know this seems early, but the amount of planning to bring this festival into fruition is huge. Canceling early allows us time to think outside of the box and bring Fiber Fusion Northwest to our fiber community online!
As the last few weeks have taught us, our limitations are never hampered by the ability to physically get together - only by our desire to learn and explore.
Of course as always, we welcome volunteers, ideas, and expertise. As always, our goal is to educate and bring together our diverse community of fiber artists, producers and the public.
We hope you all join us online this year. Please keep an eye out on our website, our Facebook page, Instagram, and Ravelry for announcements. As we think our way out of the box, we’ll let you know what we find.
We are already proceeding with plans to resume our in-person event again in October, 2021, when we can look forward to seeing you all in person again!
