Class Description: Learning to weave is a long process and can be stressful. Rigid Heddle Looms offer a very portable and easy way to start weaving. The difficult part is getting it warped so that you have good tension. We can show you how to make warping easier with better tension and less stress to create woven projects that will hold together. Bring your Rigid Heddle Loom and we will start at the beginning of winding your warp, answer the question of why slots and holes how to tackle sleying easily, what to look for error-wise, how to “beam” (wind the warp onto the back beam) creating a smooth warp and creating an even warp tension. We will go slow to ensure you leave with a good understanding of the process. Weaving can be fun!
Required Skills: Just your enthusiasm!
Students Should Bring to Class:
- Bring your unwarped rigid heddle loom, rigid heddle reed, warping pegs, table clamps, a threading hook, scissors, empty shuttle for your weft yarn, and a pickup stick if you have one.
- Rigid heddle reeds come in various sizes, often 10 or 12 EPI (ends per inch)..... If you have size 12 EPI, please bring it. If you only have one reed, please bring it.
