Class Description: Tackling is probably a good word for Cable yarns. Cable structure requires a large amount of twist and managing at least 4 singles to create a plyed yarn to obtain the classic snap. Are you up for the challenge? Learning how to do cable yarn opens a variety of variations you can make. From very thin singles be able to ply 8, 16, 32 or more singles together. Cable yarn is very hard wearing for items such as socks, with strong abrasion resistance. The class will teach you how to get the required twist needed for a 4-ply yarn that “snaps together”. We will provide techniques and process to help you create the structure of Cable yarns which opens the door for you to do other cabling techniques such as slubs or beaded yarns.
Required Skills: Be able to spin a single, ply, and have an understanding of how your wheel works.
Students Should Bring to Class:
- 1 bobbin at least half filled (or balls) of singles spun S, 1 extra bobbins, Lazy Kate, a wheel in good working condition with spare parts (ex: drive band), oil, scissors, paper and pen/pencil, and other accoutrements you would normally bring. Ball winder (if you have one)
