Description: Repp (Rep) Weave is a warp faced or warp predominate, ribbed weave cloth. On a rigid heddle loom the weft is usually still visible which adds another design element to play with. In this one day class, we will look at these design elements and how they impact your cloth:

  • Warp design and scale (size of stripes/blocks)
  • Yarn sizes and color choices
  • Warp and weft calculations
  • Options for direct warping with multiple colors

Class project: A sample warp that can be made into trivets or potholders. A couple of drafts will be provided for inspiration. This is a great way to sample for placemats or table runners.

Required Skills:  Skill level: beginning to intermediate (Students should have some experience weaving on a rigid heddle loom and be familiar with direct warping)

Students Should Bring to Class:

  • Rigid Heddle loom
  • 12 dent Reed preferred, 10 dent okay - weft shows more
  • 2 colors in contrasting value, of 8/4 cotton (Brassard or Maysville Carpet warp) Optional: accent color of 8/4 cotton
  • 2 or 3 colors, that match or coordinate with your warp colors, of worsted weight cotton (~800 yds/lb.) such as Cascade Nifty Cotton or Lily Sugar’n Cream Note: yarn in skeins should be already wound into balls
  • Scissors
  • A “yarn containment unit” such as a small basket, paper bag or a ‘Lazy Kate’ to hold spools / yarn while warping
  • 2+ stick shuttles (this is a 2 shuttle weave)
  • Full warping setup (clamps, warping pegs, cardboard sticks/paper, warp hook)
  • Measuring tape
  • Colored pencils

Supplies Provided by Instructor: Instructor will provide handouts, graph paper, worksheets
