Description: One of the few living tablet weaving traditions in the world is found in Uzbekistan. The tablet woven trim they make, called jiyak, breaks all the rules of typical modern tablet weaving. Using rectangular cards with only 2 holes, you will learn how to make jiyak’s cable work designs by jumping the cards over each other into different positions in the pack. Simple to weave but with a dramatic effect, this class is suitable for novice tablet weavers, as well as those with more experience who want to try something a little different.
Required Skills: No experience necessary.
Students Should Bring to Class: Please bring note taking materials, pencil and eraser, sharp scissors. A pair of warping pegs or C clamps is helpful, but the instructor will have extras available.
Supplies Provided by Instructor: You will receive cards and yarn to make and weave a warp, a full color handout, and the use of a loom and shuttle during class.
